But it Rained!

The blue sky opened a hidden door she could not see,
But nevertheless she could barely contain her glee,
Dry and crumbled everything was seeming to become,
This deluge a respite needed by all, not some!

One by one they began to smile, she looked around,
Her friends' boundless joy echoed in cacophonic sound,
The puddles they jumped in, happy and carefree,
An amusing sight, she marveled at their maturity!

The boy whose name she always seemed to forget,
The little girl whose brow was always covered in sweat,
The twins who had never shown a speck of remorse,
The one eyed boy who could gallop like a horse!

Banded together by fate this collection of misfits,
Besting life in their own way where none submits,
The little shed by the traffic junction, theirs to call home,
Living one day at a time, everyday tooth to comb!

She looked up at the sky again and embraced the drops,
Smiling through the teary rain, hoping it never stops,
Glancing around at all of them, grateful she did feel,
Then looked at her seat only for the truth to reveal!

Six years now she has been shining shoes,
Some tipped her ones, some tipping her twos,
Yet every evening when she got together with her gang,
Only happy things they spoke, joyous songs they sang!

She wiped her brow with her blackened hand, ready,
Pulled up her crutch, she needed that to stand steady,
The one puddle they were jumping in, calling her,
A happy prayer in her heart, as she hobbled after.....!

Outside the Window

I used to sit by the Window, thinking of the world outside,

Of the world unseen versus the one I had seen, as a divide,

Till one day I finally cast my doubts aside,

And walked through the door leaving my past inside.

I thought as I walked, of the things I missed out on,

The fresh caress of raindrops and the warm kiss of the sun,

The world became my Inn, and I, her guest,

There was no charge, no tax, more than ample for me to digest.

Beyond that door, I was never going to be the same,

The only things I retained, were my experience and my name,

I saw giant peaks, and the vast blue sea, with golden sand beneath my feet,

I saw lush green forests, quaint little towns, often a stop to rest and sleep.

I met travelers from different lands, antique and new,

They regaled me with their tales of  life on both sides of the window,

We owned not any strip of land nor a drop of the seas,

Yet we possessed the immeasurable wealth of our innumerable stories.

Give me the long road anytime, with the wind ruffling my hair,

It beats sitting behind a windowsill wondering 'what's out there?',

I no longer sit by that window thinking of what could have been,

I chose to walk my path and venture on roads unseen....!

Apricity

The warm Sun on my face, as I lie on my couch,

Makes we calm enough to cease everything and slouch..

Winters are harsh, ever cold, always bitter and relentless,

Adding nothing to my routine except waywardness and stress..

For days on end biting my ears, her shroud of nevernding chill,

Any and all joy sucked out, all avenues of happiness it seemed to kill...

And then, today, lo and behold, out comes the golden grandpa of the sky,

And sure enough, all the cold worry he did successfully fry..

Reaching into my mind I do this comparison to the lives we live,

Where routine is winter, and the sun is the warmth our family and friends give..

Frying away the negatives life throws our way with their mere presence,

Making each memory smoulder in our hearts, enabling a natural form of defense..

Everyday challenges may bring unlimited and difficult to contain cold,

But it all fades in the bright warmth of the collective F&F gold!
