I picked up a pen today, to write,
Remembered, we don't write anymore, We type.
Led to a thought I chose to pursue,
Of all the changes we did accrue.
From childhood days, smothered in bliss,
To growing into this stressful abyss.
From playing outdoors - in meadows and fields,
To filling spreadsheets & closing deals.
From riding a bike on empty streets,
To atterding meetings from a car's backseat.
Waiting for a movie to air on Sundays was so exciting,
Today choosing what to watch leads to us fighting.
Waking up was joyful - everything was new,
Now we wake up to a never ending email queue.
Somewhere between 'let's party all night' to 'let's stay in tonight',
We grew up from loud & Carefree to poised and quiet.
Things that reminiscent me are aplenty,
Of growing up to the right side of 20.
A spark shines in me as I begin to write,
Hoping to ignite something happy & bright.
Here's hoping not to lose us again in this rat race,
Let's be more than texts and emails, let's remember each other's face.
Promise to wake up everyday, once again,
Not like we do now, but how we used to, back then.
